Whittaker classified living organisms under five kingdoms; Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia based on various features such as the complexity of cellular and body structure, and mode of nutrition.
Types of classification in angiosperms plants.
All taxonomists, from Aristotle to Linnaeus, proposed an artificial system of classification.
An artificial system of classification is based on a few morphological characters. It is the primitive or oldest system of classification.
The natural classification system was based on all the possible characters; therefore, this system is more useful.
The phylogenetic-based number system of classification was proposed by "Sokel and Sneath". Plants are classified based on several similarities and dissimilarities. In this, importance to any one character is not given, all characters have the same importance. While, in natural classification, floral (reproductive) characters have more importance than vegetative (root, stem, and leaves) characters.
In the Traditional system of classification, the plant kingdom is divided into two subkingdoms-cryptogams and phanerogamic.
